Steve Hines
Steve Hine is a British Sculpture artist born and raised in Nottingham, England. he went to study in Sunderland where he received his BA(Hons) Degree in Photography, Video & Digital Imaging. He then moved to London and gained a MA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins.
Steve likes to work freely and intuitively across a variety of mediums, responding to what impacts him physically or emotionally and to what he sees happening or not happening in the world. Steve enjoys manipulating, distorting or reassembling existing objects - changing their meaning and disabling their function.
His practice ranges from traditional aesthetic concerns with occasional modernist references, through to agit-prop or activist responses to systems of authority where Steve will challenge conventions, or accepted approaches, and comfortable positions. There is also a conscious art historical connection in several of his work with open acknowledgement to iconic figures such as Marcel Duchamp or Piet Mondrian.
