In class I worked with charcoal an acetone. Using the acetone helps to break down the charcoal and allow it to run and bleed.
I also worked on creating a charcoal piece an erasing areas. I did this to add some contrast to the piece as well as create shadow and highlights on the portrait.
First off I started by painting a base for my charcoal piece. I also added some torn pages to it as well to give it some texture.
In fine art we starting off by experimenting with charcoal an acetone. The process was rushed and erratic, I wanted the work to look messy overall. I had also never used an eraser over charcoal, I typically created highlights with white chalk. The process was tricky at the start as spraying the acetone onto the charcoal was hard to control, as was spraying it in a specific desired area. In the end I found the experiment fun and it's something I will add to my charcoal drawings.
