Step by Step - Coiling
Firstly I started with a clay base which was going to be the base for my coils to be added to. I then started a coiling piece with ready made coils which I was to then begin building up.
Once adding a coil I must cut off an excess in order for me to blend the layers perfectly. The clay I was using for very soft so I left it in the damp cover so that I could have it become more firm. This still allowed the clay to be soft but more stable.
Lastly I added my final touches before carving my design. I used a dry sponge to smooth out all the rough edges. I also used a smooth kidney to help smooth out any imperfections.
Lastly I carved some designs into the so that it would be complete. Once I was done with the designs the piece was finished and ready to be fired. |
