In life drawing as a group we all became each others models so we could accurately capture the models form. I also personally aimed to use different types of mediums throughout each model.
During the class I made the mistake of drawing too small on my first model, so I aimed to use up all the space on my page next time. I decided to use a red sharpie instead of a pencil to see how the marker would work out overall.
Throughout all my models I continued to use different mediums for each model. For my 3rd model I used oil pastels. I wanted to test my strengths an see how it would work, rather than doing a rough pencil sketch, as well as seeing what the results would be in the end.

For the second week of life studies we began to experiment with pastels as well as using various sizes and colours of paper. I wanted to work on my scale as the week before I wasn't pushing myself to create larger studies, so this week I planned to draw on A3 paper or A2 paper which we had. The first two studies I created within only 10 minutes, I didn't want to use just one colour pastel so I decided to use 3 which had some colour harmony between them. I used blue, orange and yellow pastels. I made sure that I was adding the colours in the appropriate areas, such as yellow for highlight, orange for mid tones and blue for darker tones/shadow. I found that my side profile study worked a lot better than my portrait study. I found myself rushing to get it done, as I was spending too much time trying to get the proportions right, in the end I thought that the end result looked too messy.
For the second set of studies I wanted to add some more colours to the pieces. I continued to use the same colours as last time for one of my new studies, I also did a study using red, orange and white. I thought the first two studies were quite bold with the stroke of pastel, so I wanted to approach these new studies with more finer strokes. I also wanted to try layering colours so I did a red base for my last study. I used the red mainly as shadow then I built up the the face and feature with my lighter pastels, making sure to add plenty of highlight in the appropriate areas, Overall I found that working with pastel was fun but tricky, if I layered the pastels together they would get muddy and the piece would not look great. I think using two or three pastels work best, especially using them for continuous lines studies.

Our third week into life studies we looked into using more mediums. We were given the option to use our own pens, pencils, oils, pastels etc. I brought my own sharpie pens to use for the class, I hadn't use any pens up to this point so I wanted to try an work with my pens to see what I could do with them. For the first study we were given 10 minutes to draw our mode, I wanted to try an see how many continuous line studies I could do of the model in the time I had. I spent 5 to 6 minutes work on my first line study which was the most detailed. I also began to layer different colours of my pens to the study to try and add some depth to it as it looked flat with just one colour. I didn't have much time left for another detailed piece so I just quickly focused on my model and drew my last study.
For the second study I wanted to keep it simple so I just used one marker. I wasn't a fan of how this came out, as the lines were becoming messy. I also ruined the face and just built up the lines of the marker which I thought made it worse. We were able to do one more study so I wanted to work charcoal for this last one. The model was sitting in a position which made it difficult to map out the body proportions, as the angle and position I was sitting in to study the model meant my drawing was a forced perspective. I found that I mapped the body out pretty well but the legs look too short and ruined the perspective.

In the last life study class I wanted to try and be more experimental with lines and see how I can push myself. For the first study I was just warming up to doing continuous line study as it had been a while since I had done one at this point. I planned to do a bold line study in blue to begin and then work up to making some more experimental. Once I got to do my second study we had 15 minutes to work on it so I spent around 5 to 10 minutes just slowly drawing my study, then the last 5 minutes being experimental with it. At this point it was a basic study so I started adding lines around the face, I almost wanted them to resemble a contour line so it brings some shape to the face. Overall I found the experiment fun but it wasn't something I would probably add to my future studies.
