Gerhard Richter
Gerhard Richter is a German visual artist. Gerhard has produced abstract as well as photo realistic paintings, he also produces photographs. Gerhard is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary German artist.
Gerhard borrows much of his painted imagery from newspapers or even family albums. He often starts his work by projecting an image onto a canvas.
Richter primes his canvas by underpainting, after that he covers the canvas in a thick oil paint using a thick brush or sponge. Then he uses Perspex to scrape or etch the paint across the surface of the work.
Gerhards work to me resembles a computer glitch or tv static. The abstract style he possess' in his work is attractive an appealing. The pieces he develops on top of photos, magazines, newspaper etc, is a witty way of mixing to medias together to develop a new form of his style. His work overall is rather pleasing to look at, as well as get inspired by.
