During photography we learnt about camera obscura. Then we went on to make our own camera obscuras using just tin foil, water and a scalpel.
We used a window so that we could project the outside image onto the wall. The window had to be wet for the foil to stick, so we used a spray bottle to dampen the windows. This helps to black out the windows so that the process will work.
In order to reach the high windows we had to use a pole/hoover so that we could reach the top.
Eventually the room will start to get darker and soon black out the entire room. The darker the room the better the result will be.
For this to work we closed all the shutters to the windows as well to make sure no light was coming through. Then we cut our hole which was to project an image on to the wall.
Final Outcome
Lastly we were able to capture an image from outside. It gave us a clear view of the trees an monument outside.
In class I learnt about Camera Obscura, which is an ancient optical device. In its most basic form it is, quite simply, a dark room with a small hole in one wall. On the wall opposite the hole, an image is formed of whatever is outside.
We learnt about how this technique worked and watched a demonstration on it. I found it rather fun to watch and see how the process would work. I was less motivated by the entire process and the results what eventually showed. The images weren't very clear and
the room itself was not dark enough.
I do believe that if I attempted this myself and tried out different methods for blocking out the light I might get some different results.
