Today we worked with ink and cling film. The use of the ink and cling film is to allow us to have a texture background. This is done through the ink drying under the cling film an giving a texture which is manipulated through the film sticking to the ink,
For this to work I needed to have my canvas wet with ink so that I can place the film on immediately. The ink dries fast so to get the best results I need to have my film ready once my ink has been placed down.
I did the technique on two canvases which I wanted to paint a portrait on top of with the ink texture in the background. I wanted to see how it would look once something was added to it.
The ink and cling film is a good technique if you want to do something different with your background or even with your painting. The marbled cracks that the cling film creates from the paint give a fascinating new texture. I think this technique would work successfully if I painted a portrait or even a landscape piece.
